About Solitaire Free UK
About solitaire-free.uk
solitaire-free.uk is a free place for players in the United Kingdom to play patience online. Whether you learned Klondike from a grandparent with a real pack of cards at the kitchen table, or on a work computer in the lunch hour, the game is the same: a quiet puzzle you play against yourself. We have tried to build the version we would want to play, clear, fair and uncluttered.
The site is run by Forty Media. You can contact us at info@solitaire-free.uk.
Free, and nothing to sign up for
Every game on solitaire-free.uk is completely free. There is nothing to download or install, no account to create and no email address to hand over. Open a page and the cards are dealt. There is no gambling, nothing to buy and no timer hurrying you along.
All the games share the same helpful features: large, clear cards with a zoom control, a Hint button, unlimited Undo, Restart, Auto Play to finish a solved game, and drag-and-drop or tap-to-move. They work on a computer, tablet or phone, in any modern browser.
The games
We offer twelve patience games, from the familiar to the less well known:
- Klondike, turning one card at a time, and Solitaire Turn 3 for the harder draw.
- FreeCell and Baker's Solitaire, where every card is face up.
- Spider Solitaire with one, two or four suits.
- Yukon and Alaska, with no stock at all.
- Diplomat, a two-pack game with a friendly nature.
- Golf and Pyramid, for a quick round.
Our research: how winnable are these games?
Patience has a reputation for being mostly luck. We wanted to know how true that is, game by game, so in September 2026 our team rebuilt each game in Python, following this site's own rules, and played thousands of numbered deals by computer. Depending on the game we used a simple bot that sees only what you see, a solver allowed to look at every hidden card, or, where the game is small enough, an exhaustive search that gives the exact answer.
Some findings are reassuring: our solver found no FreeCell deal out of 10,000 that could be proved impossible. Some are sobering: on this site only a King may fill an empty column in Baker's Solitaire, and under that rule just 31.8% of deals can be won at all. Where published research exists we checked against it, chiefly the peer-reviewed study by Blake and Gent in the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (2026); our FreeCell results with fewer free cells fall within the same ranges as theirs. Every game page sets out its method step by step, including what we had to assume and what the numbers cannot tell you.
How the site is written
We used an AI assistant, Claude, made by Anthropic, to help write and review the simulation code and to draft pages. The AI did not produce any figures; every number comes from running the code, and the team checked the results against published research before publication. Pages appear under the byline Admin on behalf of the solitaire-free.uk team.
- We describe the rules as they work on this site.
- Every statistic comes with its method, and with a range where a single figure would claim too much.
- We quote outside figures only with a link to the source.
- If you spot an error, we will look into it and correct the page.
